Grass loves to grow in gutters! And particularly in downspouts. The depth of a downspout allows the grass roots to go as far as they want down a downspout and is the perfect environment for a sod of grass to make home.
Unfortunately that same sod ends up blocking the downspout and stops any rainwater from flowing down to ground level.
In a short period of time, the guttering fills up and water eventually cascades over the side of the guttering. It is this water that then bounces off the ground and hits the walls and over time causes penetrating damp at the base of your home.
Thankfully, we are well used to unblocking these sods and then flushing out the downspouts and guttering with water, keeping the water moving quickly down to ground level and away from your home.
Whoever you choose to care for your guttering, if you have asked them to clean out your guttering, make sure they don’t just use a vacuum to suck out the surface debris. Your downspouts are the most important part of your guttering system and must be thoroughly cleared and then flushed with water to make sure they are completely clear.
Although a gutter vacuum is a great piece of kit and something we use, it does has its limitations especially when it comes to downspouts.
We offer a 1 Year “Problem Free Guarantee” on all gutter cleaning jobs for complete peace of mind for you and your home.
